Gambling and Politics an awkward relationship
In many countries taxes on gambling bring billions into the empty pockets of governments. Still many are reluctant to legalize it and gambling laws and regulations vary widely across the globe. Now a casino en ligne, sport betting and casino games companies have to register and acquire a license to be able to operate. Santiago's government declares war on slots
Slot machines and online casino games have seen huge popularity in Chile in recent years. Many little corner stores started off with one or two machines and then grew offering higher pay-outs and more machines. The government decided to act and closed down 40 illegal casinos in the historic centre of Santiago as fears of increasing gambling addictions are rising. Many criticise the government for not having a gambling legislation in the first place (such as the French online casino laws) and are concerned about many places not having any oversight and no controls. The online casino and sport betting industry is growing as well. At the moment there is not much the government can do to stop people playing slots at a casino online.

Recently the New Jersey government has pushed through legislation on allowing online casino operations in New Jersey. They are restricted to New Jersey residents and have been pushed through by a huge lobbying effort from the online casino industry. Online casinos have been forbidden in the US since 2006, many online casino operators have moved out of it and focused on European markets but the legislation have not curbed online gambling in the US.
Gambling in Europe
Many countries in Europe have legalized online casino gambling, others have been forced by the EU to rethink their attitudes towards gambling monopolies, which are often held by the states. Germany as well as the Netherlands both ran into issues with the EU declaring their gambling monopolies as illegal. In the UK gambling is legal which means you are able to play at any of the big casinos like Quatro Casino, UK Casino Club, Casino Classic and Casino Action. The state imposes taxes on the casino operators and thus increases the money they are taking in. France is giving out special gambling licences and is as well collecting taxes. Even cash-strapped Greece is thinking about legalizing gambling, you can even now play at a Mac casino. In this way they can take in lots of money and help their finances.
